Famous Short Story Authors
Saki----- Saki was a pen name for the author Hector Hugh Monroe who lived from 1870-1916. He is a British author and was considered the master of short stories for his witty and suspenseful stories. He started out his writing career as a journalist writing for newspapers. After his journalism career he wrote lots of short stories which have gone down in history, and that are very popular.
Edgar Allan Poe------- Edgar Allan Poe was an American poet who lived from 1809-1849. He is mainly known for his mystery short stories like the "Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Raven". He is also known as the earliest American writers of the short story. Only making a living off of writing, Edgar Allan Poe was the first America writer whose only source of income was his writing. He lived a very poor life due to the fact that he had no other job and died on the streets on Baltimore in a supposed alcohol overdose.
O'Henry------ O'Henry was the pen name for the American write, William Sydney Porter, who lived from 1862-1910. O'Henry is well known for his short stories, which were written with clever wit , wordplay, and twist endings. His stories can be so surprising at the end, that some people now call a story with a twist ending a "O'Henry ending". Most of his stories takes place during his present time which was the 20th century at that time. O'Henry had numerous famous stories and was a well-known author for his time.
William Faulkner------- William Faulkner was an American writer from Oxford, Mississippi, who lived from 1897-1962. Faulkner wrote many genres of writing including novels, short stories, plays, poetry, essays, and screenplays, but is mainly known for his short stories. He is considered one of the most important writes of the Southern literature in the United States right up there with authors like Mark Twain and Robert Penn Warren! In his career he wrote 13 novels and numerous short stories which became very popular.
